Prepare for a career in health care, sport, rehabilitation, education and more! You can select courses that will provide the needed knowledge to write the examinations that lead to registration as a Registered Kinesiologist in ºÚÁÏÍø.

Kinesiology focuses on human movement and optimizing performance and quality of life. This comprehensive program covers the behavioural, biomechanical, physiological and psychosocial aspects of human health and performance. Knowledge is applied to several settings including rehabilitation, adapted physical activity, sport, exercise and general health in people of varying abilities. You will be prepared for provincial and national professional examinations. 

Students also have the opportunity to take electives to earn specializations in: Exercise Science and Rehabilitation and/or Biomechanics and Ergonomics.

Current ºÚÁÏÍø secondary school students must complete the ºÚÁÏÍø Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U) with a minimum grade of 60 per cent, Biology (SBI4U) and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U). It is recommended that students applying to the Kinesiology major Exercise Science option also take Chemistry (SCH4U).

Note: Admission is competitive. The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year to year. Students are selected by taking into consideration a wide range of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.

Experiential learning

Kinesiology students may pursue placement opportunities for one term or a full year. Working in the field of athletic therapy or exercise and rehabilitation, you are able to use skills you learned in the classroom and apply them to real-world experiences.

Examples of current placements:

  • Cardiac rehabilitation
  • Chiropractic and/or physiotherapy assistant
  • Personal trainer
  • Research projects involving exercise and special populations (e.g., cancer, depression)
  • Special needs program assistant
  • Sport-specific trainer
  • Student therapist to a varsity sports team
