Professional Communications Certificate
Overview
The Professional Communications Certificate Program consists of five (5) courses designed to enhance the effectiveness of communication abilities of today's business professionals. These courses provide a solid foundation of business skills and practices for supervisors, managers, and technical professionals who require functional management and leadership training.
Participants may choose to complete all five courses listed here to receive a formal certificate or may choose any individual class to best suit your training needs.
Options:
- Register for full program (i.e. all required elements) and receive a formal certificate upon successful completion; or
- Register for any individual class(es) to best suit your training needs.

- Identify your style of influencing others and its appropriateness;
- Use coaching as a key management and leadership skill;
- Use coaching as a tool to diminish micro-management;
- Use coaching as a tool to strengthen employee engagement;
- Use coaching as a tool to enhance organizational innovation;
- Improve your coaching skills through the use of a variety of practical tools;
- Become an effective mentor in relation to a mentee's career aspirations.

Conflict Management and Negotiations
In this course, you will learn how to:
- Identify different types of conflict;
- Apply various approaches to conflict;
- Identify and use various influencing factors in conflict mitigation;
- Manage workplace conflict effectively using a variety of strategies;
- Reduce the likelihood of conflict with colleagues; and
- Negotiate confidently using specific negotiation principles.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- Understand critical thinking and problem solving and their importance in Industry 4.0;
- Understand the impact of the digitization of industry and manufacturing (also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0) on organizational effectiveness;
- Understand typology of problems and the leadership needed for each;
- Use opportunities and tools that Industry 4.0 provides, such as: Cloud Computing and collaborative decision making; Big Data and Analytics; and Design Thinking and Empathy;
- Develop a critical thinking and problem solving mindset.

- Create purpose and act in accordance with your values;
- Effectively sell your ideas;
- Manage customer expectations and conflicts;
- Run effective meetings; and
- Clarify work requests and eliminate wasted time and money.

Workplace Innovation
- Understand new approaches to work and collaboration both on-premises and at-home, such as: distributed teams, leadership in remote workplaces, security and productivity, and time management;
- Advocate for and build a better plan for workplace cost savings, including employee retention and overall productivity, especially for organizations that are traditionally slow to change;
- Establish, roll out and maintain a plan for the ideal modern workplace in public and private sectors.

Registration
You can register for this course through the secure online registration form. All course fees must be paid at the time of registration.
Online meeting times
This program has online meeting times. This means you must attend the virtual class at the specified date and time (see the Schedule tab).
Google Meet, Zoom or Kaltura Virtual Classroom (through Catalog) will be used for online delivery of this program to support interaction and engagement.
This course may include, but is not limited to:
- Content presentations and/or videos;
- Hands-on exercises;
- Case discussions and simulations;
- Group and individual work (assignments/quizzes);
- Concept and topic discussions; and
- Topic reflections.
This is an open enrolment course.
Those completing ºÚÁÏÍø Continuous Learning open enrolment offerings (e.g. certificate programs, courses, workshops, microcertifications, etc.) are subject to the policies of ºÚÁÏÍø and Continuous Learning. ºÚÁÏÍø policies can be found in the . Requirements
To obtain the University Certificate you must:
- Register and make full payment for the certificate option;
- Attend and successfully complete each required course/element (see the course pages listed in the "Required elements" section above);
- Actively participate in all components of each course; and
- Successfully complete any assigned work

- Computer or device with internet access
- Stable internet or data connection
- Microphone
- Webcam*
- Audio device (examples: speakers, headphones/earbuds, headset)
*Webcam is preferred but not required.
