Overview

This program equips individuals and organizations with the skills to thrive in today's evolving work environment. Comprising six focused courses, it covers key aspects of the hybrid work model. Participants will learn to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities of hybrid workplaces, addressing the physical, social, and cultural dimensions, as well as optimizing technology for efficiency.

The curriculum fosters individual and organizational performance through strategies that promote accountability, collaboration, and effective communication. Each course combines instructor-led sessions with hands-on exercises, emphasizing practical experience alongside theoretical concepts. Special attention is given to mastering Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive for improved remote collaboration. Additionally, the program includes essential training on data protection, privacy, and risk management, nurturing a culture of awareness and informed decision-making.

  • Hybrid and Remote Workplace

    By the end of this course learners will be able to:

    • Understand the positive environmental impacts and possible 'downsides' to managing employees remotely;
    • Understand and articulate the influence of the organization's work environment, values, beliefs, and attitudes on employee behavior and performance.
    • Identify and apply workplace expectations, including the relevant policies, procedures, and technologies that support effective organizational practices.
    • Understand what the basic tools and technology that are applicable to managing employees remotely. (Hardware, software, connectivity, P&P);
    • Have a fundamental understanding of the privacy and security best practices (high-level overview, overview of what protocols regardless of systems used. IE. Passwords usage, encrypted tools, etc.);
    • Have a strong understanding of the importance of policies & procedures and how to implement such strategies.
    This course includes a lab assignment graded on a scale from 1 to 10.
  • Workplace Essentials
    By the end of this course learners will be able to:
    • Use connective tools, equipment, and technologies and understand the primary platform choices, drawbacks and advantages;
    • Use communication and collaboration tools and understand the proper usage of online chats, texting and emails;
    • Understand the workplace expectations surrounding behavior and interactions while working in a remote environment;
    • Understand common policies, procedures, and practices involving remote management by reviewing practical, real-world policies and their benefits/detriments;
    • Develop the ability to create organizational and individual goals and objectives that effectively align with the needs of a remote staff;
    • Gain proficiency in providing performance feedback and utilizing technology and software tools for efficient internal communication.

    This course includes a lab assignment graded on a scale from 1 to 10.

  • Technology Environment and Hardware

    By the end of this course learners will be able to:

    • Identify the best tools suited for your workplace environment;
    • Have an in-depth understanding of Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace and understand how to apply the software effectively to your workplace;
    • Understand the importance that ergonomics plays in a remote workspace (Corporate office set-up, screens, monitors, chairs);
    • Understand the importance of Business Continuity Planning and how to effectively implement such plans (WiFi, Environmental disasters, Mobile devices) by reviewing current policies, procedures and practices;
    • Assess and select technology and workspace setups, including corporate and home office configurations, that enhance productivity and efficiency in your workplace environment;
    • Understand and implement business continuity planning strategies to ensure operational resilience in various working conditions.

    This course includes a lab assignment graded on a scale from 1 to 10.

  • MicrosoftTeams, SharePoint, and OneDrive Training

    By the end of this course learners will be able to:

    • Understand the effectiveness and abilities of SharePoint and the relationship with MS Teams;
    • understand and be able to apply MS Teams to OneDrive and SharePoint through demonstration and practice activities;
    • Understand the benefits of the softwares and the B2B opportunities;
    • Understand how to effectively organize and manage Microsoft Teams and its channels to enhance team collaboration and communication;
    • Identify the relationship between SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, and demonstrate the ability to connect Microsoft Teams to OneDrive and SharePoint for improved document sharing and storage;
    • Have a thorough understanding of the policies and best practices involved with the applicable software.

    This course includes a lab assignment graded on a scale from 1 to 10.

  • Privacy and Security

    By the end of this course learners will be able to:

    • Have a strong understanding of the threats and risk of public and home (private) connections by reviewing case studies exemplifying these risks (wired vs wireless etc.);
    • Evaluate and differentiate the security threats and risks associated with public versus home (private) connections, and describe the role of multifactor authentication in mitigating these risks;
    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of best practices in cloud security, including maintenance, updates, and the use of antivirus software, to establish effective protection strategies for users and data;
    • Understand multifactor authentication and processes involved by reviewing the technology and its appropriate applications;
    • Understand Cloud Security, Microsoft Office 365 protection practices, Google Workspace, Antivirus software and how it protects yourself, employees, and clients.

    This course includes a lab assignment graded on a scale from 1 to 10.

  • Managing Performance: Organizational and Employee Productivity

    By the end of this course learners will be able to:

    •  Develop organizational goals and objectives, and how to measure achievements through analysis and quantifiable metrics;
    • Formulate effective organizational goals and objectives that incorporate the unique dynamics of managing a remote workforce, while also aligning individual goals with these organizational priorities;
    • Acquire skills in providing constructive performance feedback and utilizing technology and software tools for enhanced internal communication, fostering a more productive and engaged remote team environment;
    • Understand and be able to develop individual goals and how to provide performance feedback to employees through role play and group exercises;
    • Identify how and when to use technology/software tools for internal communication by developing a communication plan with your key stakeholders, employees, and clients.

In-person and online meeting times

This program has in-person and online meeting times. This means you must attend the in-person and virtual class at the specified date and time (see the Schedule tab). The in-person sessions will take place at ºÚÁÏÍø North Campus (2000 Simcoe St. N, Oshawa).

Google Meet, Zoom or Kaltura Virtual Classroom (through Catalog) will be used for online delivery of this program to support interaction and engagement.

This course may include, but is not limited to:

  • Content presentations and/or videos;
  • Hands-on exercises;
  • Case discussions and simulations;
  • Group and individual work (assignments/quizzes);
  • Concept and topic discussions; and
  • Topic reflections.
