FSSH Dean co-chairs IPBES assessment, wins prestigious Blue Planet Award
, Dean, , co-chaired the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Assessment Report on Invasive Alien Species and their Control. Eighty-six experts from 49 countries worked on the report for more than four and a half years, using more than 13,000 references, making it the most comprehensive assessment ever carried out on invasive alien species around the world.
The , based in Japan, announced that IPBES has been selected as one of two recipients of the prestigious 2024 – awarded annually to recognize outstanding achievements in and application of science to help solve global environmental problems.
The prize, which includes a $500,000 award, is further recognition of IPBES as the leading global authority on the state of knowledge and science about biodiversity, ecosystem services, and nature’s contributions to people. The official award ceremony will take place in October in Tokyo, as part of a week-long series of related events.
