Women in Research Council presents Building EDI Knowledge in Research Speaker Series – March 28

On Thursday, March 28, join Raihanna Hirji-Khalfan, Project Leader, Race and Disability Canada, as she presents her talk Courageous Conversations: The Intersections of Race and Disability in the Workplace.  

This session will discuss how to create an inclusive and accessible workplace for Indigenous, Black and racialized people with disabilities. The intersections of race and disability can be a difficult topic to address. This session will equip participants with a foundational understanding of key concepts, and will showcase the research and capacity-building initiatives undertaken under Race and Disability Canada’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) project, with a particular focus on the employment context.

Where:

Raihanna Hirji-Khalfan has almost 20 years of experience advancing disability rights, anti-racism, equity, and anti-oppressive practice in non-profit and public sectors. Prior to joining Race and Disability Canada, she served as the Accessibility Officer at McMaster University, where she managed the university’s accessibility program and compliance obligations with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). She is a seasoned facilitator with expertise in designing and delivering training and education programs. She also has expertise in creating and managing programs for marginalized communities. Raihanna holds a master’s degree in Business and Information Technology, a master’s degree in Critical Disability Studies, and an Master of Laws in Canadian Common Law. She is currently writing the ºÚÁÏÍø Bar Exams.
