FSSH sponsoring launch event for new graphic novel Red Harvest

The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) is sponsoring a launch event for a new graphic novel titled

The novel is about the Holodomor, a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians.

Created by Toronto artist and Oshawa native Michael Cherkas, this original historical work draws on Cherkas’ extensive research on the experiences of Holodomor survivors and the broader political context that continues to resonate with Ukrainians today.

Cherkas uses blue pencils, brushes and ink to illustrate his work. He has published several graphic novels, including:

  • The Silent Invasion (with Larry Hancock)
  • Suburban Nightmares (with Larry Hancock and John van Bruggen)
  • The Purple Ray (with Larry Hancock)
  • The New Frontier (with John Sabli´c)

, Assistant Professor in the FSSH Communication and Digital Media Studies program, will moderate the event.
