Registration open for annual Durham Regional Science Fair hosted at ºÚÁÏÍø
Organizers in the Faculty of Science are getting ready to host young scientists at the annual Durham Regional Science Fair (DRSF) on Saturday, April 1 in the Business and Information Technology Building.
The DRSF is open to all students in grades 4 to 12 who live in Durham Region. Students do not need to have participated at any other science fairs. They can enter the DRSF directly with a project they completed in school or they did on their own. Projects on topics in science, technology, engineering, math, environmental science and sustainability are all eligible to compete in the DRSF.
The deadline to register is Thursday, March 30 at 11:59 p.m. Registration is free.
“This is the 16th regional science fair hosted by the Faculty of Science at ºÚÁÏÍø, and the first in-person fair since 2019, due to the pandemic.” says DRSF Co-ordinator Mary Olaveson. “We hope to grow this regional science fair by continuing the pattern of the past several years. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their passion and enthusiasm for science with judges, teachers, family and the public, and to meet real scientists from the ºÚÁÏÍø community”.
After the set-up and judging of the projects in the morning of April 1, the fair will be open to the public from 1 to 2 p.m. The fair wraps up with the awards ceremony where prizes, medals, and scholarships will be presented in each of four grade categories: elementary (grades 4 to 6), junior (grades 7 and 8), intermediate (grades 9 and 10) and senior (grades 11 and 12). Up to two students in grades 7 to 12 will win an opportunity to compete at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton, Alberta in May; this prize alone is worth more than $2,000 per participant.
Volunteers including judges are needed; please contact the Co-ordinator directly at: mary.olaveson@ontariotechu.ca
